I've found out that if I let them free in the evening they wander around and as the sun goes down and it is getting dark one by one they head for the coop. The first girls will get there but won't go inside until the rest show up. Then they all go inside and all have to sit on the top perch. They will have to adjust their thinking when they get older because they aren't all going to fit on the top one. Guess they will figure it out.
I have a couple of small pumpkins still in the garden that are going to be the chickens. Pumpkin is a natural wormer and I found a site where they just cut the top open and let the chickens have a free for all with seeds and all.
I didn't let them out yesterday because I worked until after it was getting dark but I'll be home today. They love rearranging the wood chips in my flower bed and they are very happy when they find the clover. The other morning when they were out Cecile found a worm and she nonchalantly ran into the coop and dropped it and then went back out to join the others. When they weren't paying attention she wandered back in and finished it off. That was sneaky but no one noticed to take it away. I thought it was pretty smart! :)
