Fun on the Homefront

Yes, the run addition is done but have extras to do now.  I had an18"x4' planter box and a 4'x4' planter box that I wanted to modify.  I took apart the square one and we cut two boards to fit in the long one and we made two short boxes for the coop.  I put one in each section and added compost to them the first day.  It gave the girls something to do and they didn't totally empty them by the next day.  I filled them with compost and dirt and then planted them with Nasturiums and Kale and added some already growing marigolds and then stapled chicken wire over the top.
My husband built another small coop out of another set of wood shelves recycled from work, this is a sleeping area for the chicks when they get out of the brooder.  Hmmm, brooder?  It isn't even ready yet, nor do we have the chicks yet but we have a small coop! :)
Below is photos of broody Tina Turner, my planted beds, chickens wanting treats, and the little coop in painting stages.  Yes, I painted it purple to start, the inside will stay that color, what the heck!  But I had this can of Victorian Red that I painted the shelves in my booth with and I mixed some brown and a touch of black to get a deeper red instead of bright.  I was almost done with the first coat when I knocked the paint can off and it landed upside down in the dirt.  Yep, spilled most of it!  I hope I have enough left to put on a second coat or I'll be buying more paint.  I saved a few inches along with some texture :)
