It has cooled down here a bit, today's high is supposed to be 88, wow, 88, it must be spring again :)
My young ones are really close to going outside for good. I've been opening up the top of the brooder and they all fly up and hang out which means I have to have news paper all around the edges, of course. I've been taking them out in the evening before dark and letting them run and play in the Silkie area since I haven't taken down the fencing as of yet and they totally love it.
I am going to put them outside on my days off for good, I think. I will miss them being inside but they need to be out now, and their brooder is getting too small for them. I'll have to do a deep cleaning of the coop run addition before letting them out and I think I'll incorporate a ladder into an outside roost for them before setting them free in there.
I love this new assortment and they are all getting along very well. The Black Australorp (who's name got changed to Daisy instead of Aussie) is very tame and is the first one to fly up to the edge, so is Racer the Speckled Sussex but she's still the Racer and hard to catch. Just zips back and forth when you try to catch her. The Buff Orpington "Buffy", Red Star "Lucy", and Buff Laced Polish "Sassy" all get on my hand very easily and Diller (Gold Laced Polish" is easy since she can't see me coming. :) I'll let them be in the separated pen for a month or two and let them get bigger before I let the big ones loose with them in the yard.
