The chickens are thriving. It has been hot and hotter here in NW Arizona. We've put a 10' mister across the inside of the chicken coop and we turn it on around noonish until evening to keep them cool. I have pans of water for them to wade in if they feel like it.
I am still going out every evening and putting the kids in their coop. They keep trying to sleep under it and I go out before it gets dark and put them inside on the roost. We've been doing some name changing, too, we are almost settled on them. It is almost time to make name plates.
I had thought I was going to babysit my daughters chicks over the fourth weekend so bought bands and put on all mine and then it didn't happen. The bands all snapped on and it was time to take them off and it was a pain because they have all grown. I had to hold each while Steve used hemostats to put on the inside and out to pop them apart carefully as to not to hurt them. All is happy now.
I've been going out in the evening and letting the big girls out and then giving them a veggie assortment to put them back in the pen and then letting the little ones out for a bit. They are getting braver every day and our cat Lily thinks it's great sport to chase them. She actually kind of runs up and stops after they go up in the air. It is entertaining, to say the least! :)
