12 Days of Apron and Sweater

I checked Diller's back a few days ago.  Under her apron was nice new feathering and I decided to let it go a few more days.  This afternoon I took her apron off.  I've been trying to catch Hazel for the last few days to look under her sweater and she seems to  know that I wanted her because she would run by like a flash and totally stay away from me.
I got sneaky.  After they went to bed I got out my trusty ball cap with the headlamp on it and turned on the infra red and went out and caught me a chicken.  You would have thought I was wringing her neck. :)  I brought her in and with assistance got the Velcro off and looked under.  Beautiful feathers again so we took off her sweater and back to roost she went.  I'm happy with this experiment.    I did not buy fleece for the sweater I used a small fleece piece that I had.  But, I will be prepared for next year and know what to do.
No, your grandma did not do this.  But, my chickens are SPOILED and I knew it couldn't possibly be any kind of warm with no feathers.  In the winter they puff up to stay warm, how can the near naked chicken puff up feathers that simply are not there?
Just my 2¢ worth!
