Introducing Third Acre Farm

When I got chickens 3 years ago I had no idea that I would get goats.  Not an inkling!  I named my chicken coop "Rockin' Chick Hotel"  thus named my blog about the chickens and my yard by that name.  Now that I've added two Nigerian Dwarf goats to the mix I need a name to put on future paperwork for any babies that my doe, Dahlia Star, produce in the future.  We live on a third of an acre so after much deliberation, I was going for Rockin Chick but I thought that Rockin might be too familiar for a farm or ranch so I did "Third Acre" as my herd registration name.   The kids breeder has two names because she couldn't get the same name with both so one is Sweet Snow White's and the other is Snow Whites.  I'm happy that I should have the same herd name for both memberships.
I registered my kids with ADGA-American Dairy Goat Association and with AGS-American Goat Society.  I called both when filling out the paperwork to check on herd names.  Both had Third Acre available so that is good.  I got registered goats because I can sell them to 4H kids easier or so I've been told.  I am in love with the kids, they are fun and they love hiking with us.  We changed around the playground in their pen and they have a blast on it.
I still love my chickens and go out and watch them.  It is fun to watch the goats run by and the chickens scatter.  Eventually they will get used to each other eventually.  The chickens are our every night foraging through my flower beds, edge of the fence and anywhere else they can scratch.  I'm getting anywhere from 8-12 eggs a day right now.  But, I have regular customers that buy them and about when I panic about having too many someone needs some so all is well.  I raised my egg price to $3 a dozen and now I have enough money to cover their pine chips, too, along with their feed.  I need to dip them for the mites but the weather has cooled down yet again.  We had a 91 degree day and then it got cool again.  Not complaining, but I mean cool.  Took the blanket off the bed and then need it again.
