My husband got a part time job so I have half a day without him here. I've been doing things I put off. I went around the house with the duster that holds dust and did the corner cobwebs, did ceiling fans, under the fridge, and I totally cleaned the bathrooms. You'd think the person that lifts the lids would see they need cleaned. Luckily I have mine trained well and the lid is never left up. :)
Yesterday I added a second flap to the goat shed opening. I use a tread mill mat that I cut for the flap. We had to make the opening a bit bigger and so I had to hang both pieces to help with the air. So it is uneven but they can come out the high side without having to move the flap. I also put straw inside to help with the cool factor. I put flagstone in there this summer so I wouldn't be sweeping out all the dirt and I decided it would make it colder in there. I have plenty of straw so I'll just add to it to keep it deep and dry. I also tortured them and I let one at a time into the milk room and trimmed their feet. They were gone a month and they were way overgrown. More than they get at home so now I know they get better exercise here.
Now, the two new chickens are still sleeping in the run. I guess they don't want to fight the others for a spot on the roost. So proof is there that they don't need a warm building or a heat lamp to survive. It has been in the high 20s here at night and they are sleeping outside on a tree branch. They are tough birds. Today I need to clean poop boards as it is getting deep. I don't do it as often as I should but my coop is not a pig sty.
The best thing of all was: I bought two quarts of milk from my breeder from her goats. Oh, man! That stuff was pure heaven! Nice and creamy and it was SOOOOO! good! I'm thinking of getting Dahlia's blood drawn and sending it in so I know for sure that she is bred but I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to do it.
One more thing. I am making dolls for my two youngest grand daughters for Christmas. My friend, Sara, brought me some patterns. I made underwear from one pattern and then cut out two pants and shirts from the other. Spent part of a day sewing them to find out they are for the totally wrong size of doll! 14" clothes will not fit 18" dolls. The 16" underwear fit from that pattern so may make the shorts outfit from that one. I got shirt and pants made yesterday and am now working on a dress and pinafore X2 for two girls.
