Now that we are single people with no kids at home, we have already remodeled part of our spare closet and added shelves for canned goods. It is a wide closet, actually the inside measurement from end to end was 85". We already had shelves on the sides for books when the kids were at home. We had done the left side with shelves, the right side still had the closet rod and our hiking back packs were hanging on that side, and there was one long shelf across the top that was slowly coming down that has spare kitchen stuff piled on it.
Now that I've been canning we need more shelves :) I talked Steve into adding more shelving yesterday. I now stored the backpacks in an under the bed tote and we took out the long shelf across. We are using the shelving that has the metal bracket up the wall and you put the brackets into it. We now have two long shelves across the full length of the closet, the lower one is a 16" shelf which is what the original one was, and above it is a 12" shelf. It looks so much nicer now! The grid and brackets are in for the right side, but the shelves need two inches taken off so they will fit. I had bought 5 shelves but I think I'll be returning one and the brackets. The shelves on the right side are spaced different than the left and I want the new shelves to align with the ones on the side and I'll still have totes under the shelves with the rest of the hiking stuff in them.
These are the old pics I took of the first remodel. I'll take more later today as I get the rest put together before we put the mirrored sliding doors back on. I didn't remember to take a picture before we ripped the upper shelf out but you can see a glimpse of it in these pictures.
