Death in the Chicken Family

I found my oldest chicken dead last night, she's had a trial of a life to start with.  The first year she got egg bound a couple of times and then I nearly drowned her when I was dunking all of them in a bucket of permethrin mix.  She has coughed ever since.  I think it finally got her.  I've also found that I just hold them upside down and spray all the underneath and it works just as well and not as messy as trying to dunk them.  They got mites a couple of years in a row.
I got three new Buff Orpington chicks about 8 weeks ago, they are growing up.  My surrogate mom goes broody every year so I just swap chicks out for eggs.  Molly managed to get one out of the next box to play with and killed it, but the other two are beautiful.
When I have a chicken die I take it out to the desert and leave it so it can feed someone.  I figure coyotes will eat it.  I'm now down to 10, 8 laying and two on the way to laying.  Probably when the rest molt the others will start laying.
