I am building a new little chicken coop. We haven't exactly decided what kind of chickens we are putting in it yet, but maybe Polish, Frizzles, or Silkies.
I hauled four wooden racks from work that were holding boxes of bulbs and bare root vines. I'm making one into the coop and using the other three to make it with. It will have a top level with a hole in the bottom for them to go down to ground level. It will have one nesting box and a roost that goes along one side.
It is four foot long and about 29" wide. The bottom will be the run and I have another rack that I can use for an add on run. It should work out ok.
The first shot is of the pallets that I used. I've already taken one apart and used it, the second on is the coop, and I have these two still that I can use.
This is the hole to go downstairs. I used all the wood from the other pallet to put on the back, sides and floor. I'm planning on having a pointed roof and between the top and the roof area I'll put wire so the kids don't get up top or maybe I should put a roosting pole up there too? Nah... the next photo you can see the sides all there but the front and it will have an A-Frame roof. I'll post more later, it won't get anything done to it for a couple of weeks now.
and LASTLY!~ My first "ROOSTER"
