Last week I hauled home four wooden racks that hold bare root vines and bulbs. Better than going in the trash. My plan for them is to make one into a small chicken coop for bantams such as Polish and Silkies. It was 32 degrees out yesterday but not bad in the sun. I took apart one and cut boards to fit the one I'm repurposing. It is in the greenhouse so it was warm part of the time. I'll post photos tomorrow. It will be two levels: the top half will be where one nest and a roost are and the bottom level will be ground level. It could also be used later for a sick bird or isolation if someone is being mean.
Before I leave for work today I need to check my chickens. It got really cold last night. I do not have any heat in the coop except for the 60 watt light bulb in a cookie tin under the water in the coop. That should have helped them. There was no wind so they should be okay. Just want to check on them. They absolutely get along great now that Red is gone. I'm glad my decision turned out okay since I really liked her. The only problem I see is Sylvie has a greedy streak, she grabbed my friend Dick's finger while we were sitting outside. Waving fingers mean food to her, and she got my hand when she was getting impatient for me to open the scratch and give them some.
Supposed to be 12 degrees. Steve thought our water would freeze to the house but it hasn't frozen since my grand father and uncle put the brick wall around the bottom of the trailer. So there! It did not freeze so I'm happy, I was right for a change! :)
