For the last couple of months my husbands blood pressure has been higher than normal. He had to go in for his normal yearly checkup to get his medicines refilled. Troy (our doc) asked him if anything else has been happening. Steve told him that he's had this pain in his chest for a couple of months. (news to me) Troy did an EKG on him and it looked a bit off so he sent him to the heart dr. The heart dr said, I think you had a heart attack. He came home with nitro glycerin pills and was scheduled for a stress test and told to double up on his blood pressure pills. Well, the stress test came out that he probably had a blockage in his heart and he did not have a heart attack his heart was ok. This was Monday. He was scheduled for an angiogram yesterday morning.
I'm waiting in the office all moved in with my book and a thermos because I have no idea of how long this will take. One of the techs came out and ushered me in, yes, ushered, even helped me grab my stuff. He had a 99.9% blockage in one of the major veins to/from his heart. The dr. showed me the exray or whatever it is called, either way, it was a nice picture that showed a gap in the vein that was like the bridge fell out. Nothing could get through there. He said, if we don't fix this now, he will have a heart attack in the next couple of days, an ambulance is taking him to the hospital and we are fixing this now. My funny husband is laying on the table and apparently before I got in there and when the dr. told him the news, all he said was, "my wife is going to love this".
Yes, it is hereditary and runs in his family. But he's 53 for Pete's or Steve's sake! We will be eating much better now, which will be good for all of us. I want him to be around for a VERY long time. I was scared shitless yesterday. All I could think about was a story I read a few weeks ago. The lady and husband were building a chicken coop, she went inside to put laundry in the dryer, and went back. Her husband was gone, yes, gone, he had a heart attack while she was inside and died. Steve's blood pressure had been 155/105 and this morning he texted me. It is now 124/84. It hasn't been that low as long as I can remember, mine is usually that. :)
I took the rest of the week off because he can't use his arm and I'm going to make sure he doesn't use his arm. They went through his arm instead of his leg, guess it was closer? and he's younger and still has good, well in his arm at least, veins? All I know is he is more important than my job, if I get fired over this? Well, it was meant to be. It was also good timing for our daughter from England to be here. We are having our grandson for the six month deployment and she flew in on Wed. with Aiden and flies back out on this Wed. The other scary part is: we spent the day before all this looking for a dresser and bunk bed. Steve moved a lot of furniture the day before, man, guess that was a close one!
