Candling

We did candle the eggs on Thursday night and again on Friday night.  The girls got a kick out of it, as did I, it was the first time I'd ever done it.  This is also the first time I've had hatching eggs.  I've bought chicks before and raised them but never to have them actually hatch.  Aiden asked last night when they were going to hatch.  She's been sitting on them for two weeks on Thursday, so I figure 21 days will be next Friday.  I'm glad I'm off those days as I'm getting antsy also.  Then the big thing, do I leave them with Tina Turner?  Or do I bring them in to the brooder?  I'm not keeping them, I'm giving them to my neighbor.  But I do want to do the wing check and see if I can tell a boy from a girl.

I've had two bites of Craigslist this week for eggs but neither have responded to my emails so I gave eggs to the family instead.  Traded a dozen eggs for a couple of golf balls for the nests.  Good trade, right?  Although, no one has been breaking eggs since I rehomed the Americauna's so I think they were the problem.

I raked out both pens yesterday and turned the pellets in the big girls coop.  Put DE in both and in the big girls nest boxes and added more pine shavings to their boxes.  I did not add to the Silky coop since Tina Turner is sitting in there.  She doesn't come out at all, I have been taking her out morning and night and giving her feed.  She stays out for a bit and goes right back in.
