I decided a few days ago to sell the Silkies and their coop. I posted a picture of the coop and the three Silkies night before last on Craigslist and the next morning I had six, yes, six people that wanted them. I was absolutely amazed! I posted it for $100. I paid $60 for the Silkies and we built the coop out of recycled pallets. The only money we had in it was the repurposed cabinet doors and latches. The rest we already had. I got my moneys worth out of them and they were fun for a while. :) The main reason I got them is: I saw the ad, I really wanted Polish but didn't find any until later. I thought the ad said $5 for them and when I got there they were $20. I bought three.. Yes, that's me, went ahead and bought them but they were cute. They were supposed to be Stephanie's responsibility but she didn't take care of them. The whole time we've had them she has cleaned the coop once. It was even really easy, open up, use cat litter scoop and scoop up the poop into a pot. Yep, really hard, so, I found a new home for them. The lady already has a Silkie roo so is thrilled to have the three hens to go with him. All are happy and I have an open spot again behind my flower bed again. For now we will leave the fencing up so I can let the kids run in there while I clean out their brooder. Which I need to do today... They are growing up!
A funny: I have a running ad on Craigslist for eggs for sale. I only sell them for $2 a dozen, I'm not out to make money, just as I have too many a place for them to go and egg money pays for their feed. I have one regular customer that comes for a couple dozen eggs about once a month. So, I get a note yesterday: I do not have a car, can you deliver to me? I wrote back, if I deliver, they are $3 a dozen. I don't think that is unfair since I'm using my gas. What do you think?
That is definitely a fair price! Especially since gas prices are so high these days!
