Hurt Chick & Chicken Diapers

My Sassy, the Buff Laced Polish somehow got a rip on the back of her neck so I have her inside in a cage.  After our terrible rainstorm that almost took our new solar structure down (another blog) I went to check on my chickens and Diller looked so pathetic that I brought her in to keep Sassy company.  Then I did a major search and found the chickenmom pages on YouTube on making a chicken diaper and all her cool outfits.

and then found this blog:

No, I am not doing that to my chickens but if I have one wandering around in the house, it would be good to have a diaper on.  So, here goes...  I've made one to fit Sassy and just for the heck of it I made one for Diller since she is keeping Sassy company.  Sassy doesn't like it at all, either lays down or walks backwards.  Tomorrow I will torture Diller and see what she thinks of it.  I think the next version will have ziplock baggie linings to keep the moisture on the inside.

First we have Sassy & Diller with a wet top.  They are hanging out and watching the world but ended up coming out and wandering on the table.

My version of chicken diapers.  Left is bigger than the right one and has a bigger diaper.  We'll see which one works better in the long run.  These are just for trial.

I spent the last couple of days also using the wood burning tool to put names and what they are on the name plates.  The other girls have routed out names and the plaques are all color coded to go with their leg bands since they are all Barred Rocks.

  2. The smaller one fit her but she walked backwards and/or fell over and wouldn't get up. It was hilarious watching her. I gave up and put newspaper on the table. She is all healed and back out with the other teens now. I love your site! I check for new posts every day!

  3. I love the idea of having their names posted on their coop! I might have to steal that idea for my girls new home!

  4. The first ones in color I routed in the names after printing and tracing a font. The second one I just wrote on and wood burned in. Not as pretty but they work!
