Bad Chicken Mama

For the first time ever, I forgot about my chickens.
I'll never do it again.
I let them out, shut them out of the coop so I could let the goats run by and not go in and eat the chicken feed.  I forgot.  I had dinner and paint class until 9 pm.  I cleaned up my studio and close to 10 pm, I remembered that I needed to go and shut the chicken door.
I went out the back door and heard clucks.  What?  Did someone stay out?  Nope, mom forgot to open the door back up,they were perched on the fence, they were perched on the glider, and they were piled on the outside lid of the egg box.  Poor babies.  We turned on a light in the back yard, and collected chickens and put them inside and did a head count while we were putting them away.  Although, it was probably cooler outside.  I left the big coop door open and will probably leave it open for the next week because we are in a heat wave.  They can at least get a breeze through all four sides.  Yesterday they got watermelon and today they got fresh corn on the cob. 
So, if anyone looks at the chicken cam it says "closed for cleaning"  because the big door is open and blocking the camera.  Have a great day!
