As my chicks grow and get their colors I realized that I have two Red Stars instead of one and ended up with no Buff Orpington so my daughter brought me one of the three that she has and took home one of my Red Stars. Now my flock looks right. :) I originally wanted a flock of many colors but at the time couldn't get an assortment so got the six Barred Rocks. Now I have an assortment to add to the mix.
We are still having hot weather, but it is supposed to be cooling down now. We installed a mister across the center of the coop and have had it on all day only turning it off in the evening. The chicks perched on their roof last night and I let them stay since it was still 100 out. I opened the big door on the main coop so they wouldn't be too hot inside.
This morning I need to go out and rake out the runs, I've been giving them cold treats, frozen ice and bottles of ice water in their water pans to keep them cool. No one seems to be suffering and I think the mister helped 100%.
