This is the second round, the last was a few weeks ago. I didn't even notice until she had been sitting on the log outside in the run and in the morning there were a couple of eggs that were mushy on it. This time I noticed and I know now to keep an eye on her. I went out last night after I had gone to bed because I remembered that I didn't shut the run door when they went in last night. I found Miss Daisy sitting in the lawn. It was after midnight. I took her over to the coop and put her in an egg box. I then went to bed. Where I felt guilty.
Thus, I got up went out and found her and she got a soak in a tub of warm water, I dried her off and put her back. This morning I got up and she was listless and tail down so in she came again. I filled the bucket of warm water. I have this square tall plastic container that I save newspapers in. It is deep so worked fine to put her in. I put a towel over the top and she basically sat in the water for a bit.
Fresh Eggs Daily, as in the book, said to soak in Epsom salts. Hmmm, I didn't seem to have any so just plain water. I let her sit a bit then took her out in a towel and did some blow drying and massaging and I didn't have vegetable oil so I used canola, it's what I use, no vegetable oil here and put it on and a tad in the vent. I then massaged her and it was like having a kid, she eventually pumped out the egg that I could feel. Yay! Score one for the bad mom! Just to make sure, I put her in the dog crate on a towel and cleaned up the mess and went and took my shower. I came back to check on her and she had popped out another soft egg. She looks 100% better, tail up and her color is back in her waddles and comb so I put her back out with her friends. I will keep an eye on her.
PS Epsom salts is now on the grocery list.
